Who am I? It’s a question all of us ask ourselves but not very many people have a good answer. “I am a wife, I am a carpenter…” No, I am not referring to what you do; who you are, deep down in your core. If everything in life were stripped away and you were sitting alone in a Chinese prison camp, “Who are you?” Spoiler alert: only true believers in Christ will ever find out who they really are. The path to a whole, sound mind is filled with minefields that we must overcome. It is filled with rejection, betrayal, loyalty, and fear. We need someone to help guide us through thoughts that are detrimental, memories that try to resurface, and to make sense of overwhelming feelings that may or may not be happening in real time. We need someone to go to when the panic and fear overwhelm us. In the world of modern psychology, there are many good therapists that can help people navigate those mine fields, separate the present from the past, and help process. However, many will not have access to a good Christian counselor; moreover, we as a society don’t have the luxury of time and many years to get our heads on straight. We need to think clearly now, without emotions blinding us from taking on the enemy at the gate and fighting for others. Consider this session the cheat sheet – the fast-track version of mental bootcamp. The world needs as many healthy, sound minded people as possible, so we need a secret weapon in order to be our own therapist with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Leah’s Blog/Session Notes:

Tonight we are taking back our emotions from the enemy. Every single one of us has moments when we look back at a situation and know we should have acted differently. Some of us live for years in denial that our actions are harmful and never understand why.
Isaiah 61 gives us the greatest glimpse into God’s heart for our hearts. Don’t let anyone ever tell you God doesn’t care about your feelings. Of course he does. He created them
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed

Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot suffer with our weaknesses, but One who was tempted in all things like we are, apart from sin.

Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Luke 4:18

Luke 19:41-44 gives us a moving insight of Jesus’ reaction to those who didn’t accept His coming to bind up the brokenhearted. “As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. . . because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you’” (verses 41, 44). Scripture says that Jesus wept. Can you imagine God Almighty, the Lord of heaven and earth, the Maker of all things, the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, weeping for humanity?

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

The original Greek text shows that the word “wept” is klaio, which means to “wail aloud.” This word is different than what was used to describe Jesus’ tears in John 11:35, which were silent. In contrast, klaio tears aren’t quiet. Why did Jesus wail? Because he loved the Jews, and He wanted to give them peace. He wanted to heal their hearts. But because they didn’t recognize that God had come to them, they rejected Him and couldn’t receive His blessings.

In order to take on the monumental task of bringing Healing to our hearts, we may need to enlist some help . Where do we find that help? Within. Inside of every Christian is a person equipped with all the knowledge of God.

And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
2 Corinthians 3:3

For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes].
2 Corinthians 2:16

Someone inside of us has all the answers. How do we access their knowledge and wisdom?

We begin with one question….

Who am I? It’s a question all of us ask ourselves but not very many people have a good answer. “I am a wife, I am a carpenter…” No, I am not referring to what you do, I am asking who you are, deep down in your core if everything in this life were stripped away and you were sitting alone in a Chinese prison camp, Who are you? Soiler alert- only true believers in Christ will ever find out who they really are. The path to a whole sound mind is filled with minefields that we must overcome. It is filled with rejection, betrayal, loyalty, and fear. We need someone to help guide us through thoughts that are detrimental, memories that try to resurface and we need to make sense of, overwhelming feelings that may or may not be happening in real time. We need someone to go to when the panic and fear overwhelm us. In the world of modern psychology there are many good therapists that can help people navigate those mind fields and separate the present from the past and help process the later. However, many will not have access to a good Christian counselor. Moreover, we as a society don’t have the luxury of time and many years to get our heads on straight. We need to think clearly now, without emotions blinding us from taking on the enemy at the gate and fighting for others. Consider this session the cheat sheet, the fast tracked version to mental bootcamp. The world needs as many healthy and sound minded people as possible so we need to pull out a secret weapon in order to be our own therapist with the guidance of the Holy Spirit

In fact, we are told in the book of Revelation talks about a new name To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it” Revelation 2:17

Names are incredibly important to God. We see through the Bible that names carry more than just a designation, they carry weight and prophetic meaning. It’s highly important for parents to prayerfully consider the meaning of their child’s name so that when there name is said outloud the prophetic plan of God can echo forth throughout the universe. Many of us did not have parents who named us correctly. The Catholic church actually gives people a new name. That is somewhat correct, however, only you really know what your name is.
This is who we are in search of tonight. Who am I? What is the prophetic call on my life? What is my name in Heaven and what does it mean?
Look how many times God renamed people in the Bible to reflect a change of course for their lives https://record.adventistchurch.com/2022/10/04/the-ten-bible-characters-who-received-new-names/

He was also careful in their blessings

When brain splits or fractures, we lose the essence of the magnificent person that God created us to be and it seems like we spend the rest of our lives trying to find our way back. For a Christian, this can be incredibly frustrating. You read about who are are called to be and who God thinks you are in the Word but our actions or thoughts don’t always line up and we feel like we are always falling short. The answer isn’t to give up, it’s to ask ourselves why we keep messing up. As Paul says, “What I want to do I can’t do.”

The question is, is my flesh in the way? Is the devil in the way? Or, is a broken part of my mind unable to walk in faith, love, hope, and joy?

Tonight we want to hover over the last two. Is the devil keeping me bound and is a broken part of me in the forefront leading the show.

Sometimes it’s both. If the devil has you bound, he most certainly is going to prey on any broken parts and reinforce the negative thought loop which leads to a negative feeling loop which leads to a negative action loop, which leads to more negative thoughts, feelings, and actions. Only the power of God can break that cycle. We may get a reprieve from time to time but if that broken part isn’t healed, it will find a way to take control and in doing so produce more negativity. Why? Because broken parts don’t know Jesus fully. They don’t trust him fully. They can’t feel His love. Without God’s love in us we are unable to love others so our relationships with ourselves and others will suffer.

Many people go through life just fine with broken parts. You interact with broken people all the time. Many people are able to over compensate and be extra cheerful or extra neurotic in order to appease an obsessive compulsive, add, adhd, fearful, anxiety driven, or angry part of us. We may control situations in order to bring peace to our own minds. We all know those family members that you make sure you put the dishes in the right order in the drawer, or fold socks the right way, or have a favorite restaurant and can’t go anywhere else or they freak out. If that’s you. I have good news for you. If it’s someone you love, I also have good news for you. Once you find out who you really are you can begin to act as your own counselor especially as you grow closer to the Lord and His Word. The psalms are filled with David acting as his own counselor and bringing his pain, torment, and fear to the Lord. David shows us how to pour our souls out to God.

David most certainly had PTSD, lots of trauma and drama. Joseph and Daniel too. They had no one to talk to but God and David shows us how to be our own best therapist guided by the Holy Spirit to victory.

Crying out to God in the midst of despair
Repenting and making sure his heart is clean and clear
Declaring that his enemies will be defeated
Praising God before and after a victory

David had something most of us don’t have- he knew who he was. He knew he was a child of the most high God and God’s enemies always fall.
That’s the part of you we have to find. That part of you can act as the central go to person for all things scary, fearful, or any other thought or feeling that doesn’t line up with the word of God.
Once we find out who we are we can continually go back to that healed part of us, the inner most being that is saved, sanctified, filled with the Holy Spirit and seated in Heavenly places.

We can begin to have an inner dialogue with ourselves and invite the Holy Spirit in to have a 3, 4, 5 way conversation with ourselves. David talks to himself, cheers himself on constantly

Psalms 42:11 New King James Version (NKJV)
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.
Abraham—He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he (God) had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him (Abraham) for righteousness (Romans 4:20-22)

When know Sarah had an inner dialogue because she laughed to herself when an angel told her she would be pregnant at 90 yrs. Old
We want to gain as much knowledge of God and scripture so that when the storms come we can bring out our person of faith inside and ask them “what does the word of God say about this?”
You can be your own best friend, your own best advocate, because no one knows you better than yourself. As we begin to operate in the gifts of the Spirit, this is where the acceleration of healing begins. We can and should ask the Holy Spirit for words of wisdom, words of knowledge, prophetic words, discerning of spirits to help ourselves when going through a rough time, when we overact to a situation, we need to ask for a spiritual gift to be activated so that we can understand the origin of that over reaction and then ask the Lord to bring healing to that memory that is holding us back or that lie in our head or unforgiveness in our heart that is keeping us from walking in the fullness God has for us.

He truly has all the answers we need. While it’s wonderful if we have someone to walk this path with us, many men and women of faith just had themselves and the Holy Spirit.

Let’s begin by asking questions about ourselves to help identify who we really are when seated in Heavenly places with Christ Jesus- that is the person we want in charge of this healing process and you can always access that person.

What do I consider to be my very best qualities when I am at my very best?

What are my worst qualities when I am at my very worst?

How much time should I spend percentage wise at my very best, in between, or at my worst.

Now, before we can dive in to how we can help ourselves or others. We’ll we need some clues on how to bring out our own best counselor.

In the chat and if you’re watching this back , write down Scriptures that you know in the Bible. They talk about who you are in christ
Let’s name some of those.

I am the righteousness of god In christ jesus

I am the head and not the tail.I am above And not beneath

God has not given Me a spirit of fear but power And love And a sound mind

Happy is the man whose Sins I forgiven Whose god is the lord

I am provided for. My god shall provide all my needs according to riches and glories through Christ Jesus

I am a king and a priest

I come boldly Before.
The throne of grace and find help in my time of need.

God has given me all things that pertain to life and godliness

The joy of the lord is my strength

Now, Let’s take the scripture that says happy is the man Whose Sins are forgiven whose God is the lord

Now, let’s ask ourselves. What are we thinking? Where are we, What mindset are we in when we are walking in holiness, where we know we are in good standing with God, our sins are forgiven and we are not in sin?
Think about the places you are at, does anything trigger you to be holy and righteous and feel happy that you are just in that right God place in your heart and mind?

This is the real you

Now think about when you are not acting right, frustrated, angry maybe, depressed, self loathing- that is not the real you. That part of you is not seated next to Jesus.
You need to find a way to get to Jesus on your own or better yet, lead yourself, guide yourself to Jesus. That may sound difficult but it’s the easy when we figure out how to stimulate that Heavenly part of us back into the drivers seat. Yes, this requires talking to yourself. That part of you that is in victory, that is the real you.
