I am so excited to bring you guys this RC special on the Healing Power of the Sun. For years, we’ve been told to limit our time in the sun, downplaying its benefits and attributing skin cancer to too much sun exposure. The SINGLE most important thing you need to understand with health and weight gain after 40 involves sugars, glucose and insulin. Most of us are fine in our teens, 20s and 30s because that “energy” is being used up very quickly from our bloodstream because we live very active lives. The problem is once our life slows down and all of that “energy” from sugars, carbohydrates, starches etc, has to be processed through the body because it’s toxic if not used. Your body creates insulin in order to get rid of these blood sugars. The problem with that is insulin is incredibly efficient and stubborn when storing fat. Whenever insulin is present, fat storage is taking place. It’s not the greasy, high calorie foods that are making you fat, it’s the fact that you have too many sugars, and starches surging through your veins and your body is handling it the best it can: storing fat. Unfortunately, when your body stores fat, a lot of nutrients from your vitamins are getting stored in with that fat instead of your body actually processing them. Your body is incredibly efficient at conserving energy and storing things “to be used for later.” Only, later never comes and all that storage starts to pile up. Think of insulin as a squirrel or a raccoon, robbing everything that it can and saving it in its nest. Your body is that nest.
Leah and I have made the following changes the past couple of weeks and are seeing really great results in our overall health and energy. I have taken a lot of this information from many different podcasts and research over the last few weeks and these are the things that I have found to be the most helpful. I’m not a health professional, and I may get a few things wrong here or there, but this is my understanding of the process and it seems to be working well. I’m not at all taking credit for any of these things, the “Glucose Goddess” gets credit for a lot of it.
-Try to space at least 16 hours between your last meal of the day and your first meal of the next day. This is when ketones start to be made in the body and they are vital.
-Consider eggs your very best friend in the world and make that first meal with fermented veggies, eggs (and if you want add cheese) preferably farm raised eggs from a neighbor or your own.
I’m never going to do the ketogenic or carnivore diet because I like vegetables too much, but the good thing about vegetables is that they have fiber in them and when you start your meal off with vegetables, the fiber coats the stomach and limits the amount of sugars that pass through the gut into the bloodstream.
-Drink a glass of water with a little bit of vinegar before your largest meal of the day, or start your day off like I do with a glass of hot vinegar tea. Vinegar helps to balance blood sugars.
-When you are eating a meal, eat your vegetable first, then your protein with your starch/carbohydrate last.
-Try to lower your daily carbohydrate/sugar intake in half to start with.
Take a walk or exercise 15-30 minutes after you eat. The movement will grab energy from the quickest source, which is your bloodstream and use it up before your body needs to make insulin to process it. Because remember, when insulin is created, it starts storing fat and saving it, everywhere.
Do this for 4 weeks and let me know how it goes. ☺️ Within 2 days of starting this routine, all of my midday munchy cravings vanished, I actually found myself too full for dinner a lot of times… within 4 days I didn’t crave sugar at all.
