Interview: Global Food Crisis & Victory Gardens w/ Sondra Martin-Hicks

I briefly met Sondra Martin-Hicks of Heartstone Network at Clay Clark’s Reawakening Tour in Canton, OH. Our friend CJ Wheeler kept telling Michelle and me that we had to meet her new client and that we would have a lot in common; we certainly did! This interview has been a long time in coming and quite frankly, couldn’t happen at a more perfect time.

Sondra is an award winning film maker with countless awards under her belt. She’s followed around evangelist Mario Murillo and Sean Feucht as he bucked covid restrictions, putting on giant praise and worship sessions he called Let us Worship with thousands of on fire Christians.

Sondra has spent 35 plus years in the film industry, going out to Hollywood as a young 19 yr old with dreams of becoming the next Carol Burnett. Over the years God began to unfold a different path for Sondra that has led her to use her skills and creativity to draw believers and unbelievers into the Presence of God through the medium of intimate story telling.

Her recent documentary, Walk With Me, is an award winning series re-telling the amazing story of missionary Carolyn Figlioli who went to South Sudan through Heidi Baker’s Iris Global after being called by God.

“When civil war escalates in South Sudan in 2016, missionary Carolyn Figlioli and the 150 children in her care are trapped between opposing forces. After the local residents run for their lives, Carolyn must find a way to get the children out of the country while fighting with a government that refuses to let them leave.

Michelle and I cannot recommend this series enough. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will be in awe at the miraculous hand of God! Sondra tells a harrowing personal story of God’s miraculous healing and grace. While filming “Walk With Me” in Uganda, Sondra was thrown from the back of a motor bike in a car accident. She was rushed to the local crude medical facility and then to another one with more resources, where doctors gave her a dire report. Immediately prayer warriors set up a 24 hour prayer intercession team and within 3 days she was on a plane back to America where she fully recovered miraculously.

Seeing hungry and starving families in the Ugandan refugee camps, Sondra felt led to help the refugees grow their own food. This came just before covid, which put a damper on her plans to travel back to Africa. Instead, Sondra began her own 10,000 sq. ft. garden and utilized it in her Victory Gardens for Life Series that is designed to teach even novice gardeners how to grow their own food.

Michelle and I felt like we met a kindred spirit when talking with Sondra. She is bright, funny, and has a heart of gold. She doesn’t make any money off of her website; she offers all her films for free. Of course, she welcomes donations so she can continue to make amazing Christian, faith inspiring films, but most importantly, she just wants people to watch and share them. God has given her a talent she cannot hide under a bush. Few people have the ability to tell such raw stories from a place of absolute surrender to God, with emphasis on the power of the Holy Spirit and victory of Christ in the believer’s life like this incredible woman.

Take it from Michelle and me: Sondra is the real deal. You will absolutely be blessed by all of her films and interviews. Now, go start a garden and get a head start on the food shortages that are inevitably coming to this planet. God always has a way to protect and provide for his people. We just need to be obedient to answer the call and not be afraid to roll up our sleeves and get to work!
